David White - Associate Pastor

Picture
David was born in Horbury, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire.  After leaving school he trained as a chef at Kendal in the English Lakes.  Passionate about food, he worked at a number of Egon Ronay/Micheline recommended hotels and restaurants.

David married for the first time in 1972 and not long afterwards changed career and became a Police Constable in the Cumbrian Constabulary.  Five years later he was head hunted back into catering by the new owner of the Auchen Castle Hotel at Beattock near Moffat in South West Scotland.

In 1982, David took on the Franchise of “The Pancake Place” in Dumfries which later he ran as a sole trader.

David had a simple faith in God as a child but in 1986, God broke into David’s life and he was born-again at a Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship meeting in Moffat.  Under the ministry of Raymond Arnold at Dumfries Baptist Church (DBC), David was baptised in 1987 and became an active member.

In 1989, David was elected as a Deacon in DBC and through this church and Scripture Union (SU), David was involved in children and youth work in Scotland and internationally in Eastern Europe, most especially the Ukraine.

Sadly in 1997, David’s first marriage ended.  In 2000 a relationship developed between David and Paula and they married in June 2002.

Sensing the call of God to full time ministry, and as a result of much prayer, David’s business sold in 2006 and he was accepted on the BD Hons Theology and Pastoral Studies course at the Scottish Baptist College in Paisley.

Also in late 2006, David’s eldest son, James, died in tragic circumstance.  There followed some very difficult days, thankfully supported by the love and prayers of others, David’s faith held fast.

David graduated in May 2010 and in July of that same year, was inducted as the first Baptist Minister of the newly constituted Fort William Baptist Church., formerly a United Free Church.

Over a 4-year period, FWBC grew in membership and attendance, resulting in the building of an extension to the Sanctuary to increase capacity from 100 to 150.  Paula’s support was invaluable during these years in Fort William.

In December 2013, David was called back to DBC as Associate Pastor and was inducted on 28th June 2014.

David’s interests include hill walking and cooking.  As a birthday gift from Paula, he also indulged another dream, driving a couple of classic sports cars.  David and Paula enjoy simply spending time together and have just purchased a new home that is undergoing extensive renovation and extension.  The property sits in a large plot and they are looking forward to creating a vegetable, herb and fruit garden whilst tending the already established borders and lawns.  Coming back to Dumfries in in a very real sense, ‘Coming Home’.
